Longcroft Cluster

Longcroft Cluster News Summer 2010

Just before the Easter break

  • 14 Primaries had an exhilarating afternoon at Beverley Rugby club set up by Ali McClarron. Leconfield were our winners and will go to York next.
  • Longcroft SSCO had fun morning with Y3 pupils at St. Marys linking PE and ICT. Pupils used the electronic timing gates for sprinting and the jump mat to record their performances. I hope the results produced some wonderful graphs!
This term has been hectic and we have made the most of the time with the following
  • SSCO Mrs Fitzpatrick spent a couple of afternoons helping a wonderful group of Y1 and 2 pupils from St. Marys learn gymnastics skills for the first keysteps gym competition held. It was quite a challenge to learn the 2 routines but 8 boys and girls performed really well at Beverley High on competition day.
  • Groups of Young Leaders have been trained at Molescroft  and Swinemoor
  • Leconfield Y4 took a team to the Hot Shots Olympics held in the fantastic space at David Lloyd. They ran, jumped and threw with determination and finished a creditable 2nd place.
  • The multi-skills equipment has been well used as SSCO with white van was seen rushing from a morning at St.Marys with Molescroft Y1 up to Cherry Burton who were joined by Leconfield and Lockington children. These events were run successfully with help from the Y5/6 Young Leaders from St. Marys and Cherry Burton – well done to them, they did work hard. It was disappointing that it rained on Swinemoor’s afternoon.
  • The annual Kwik Cricket competition was keenly fought by 4 schools and congratulations go to St. Marys will represent us at the next stage of the competition.
  • The Inter School Football league is reaching its climax and has been a great success. 8 schools have battled it out on the 3G at Longcroft on many Tuesday nights. Thanks to Jay Rowley for starting this project. I am sure Mike Trotter and his group of refs will see this as a regular part of our inter school competition next year. I believe Molescroft and St. Marys are fighting for 1st and 2nd place on July 6th.
  • Next week the Y10 students from Longcroft will complete their Sports Leaders, Junior Football Organiser and Young Netball Organiser leaders awards by running a morning for Y 3 4 & 5 pupils from our primaries. We are hoping the sun will shine on us!
  • Congratulations to Longcroft, St. Marys and Leconfield pupils who collected awards in the Bridlington School Sports Partnership Awards ceremony this week.
  • Skipping is about the start at St. Marys and Leconfield and I know all schools are in the midst of various intra school competitions, the World Cup is taking place at Molescroft!
Mrs Fitzpatrick SSCO Longcroft would like to thank her wonderful PLTs who have worked so hard this year and been so supportive. The children have benefited so much from the many opportunities they have facilitated.
